El año que nevó en València

València estuvo cubierta de nieve en el invierno de 1956. Esta imagen de la ciudad bajo un manto blanco fue y sigue siendo algo extraordinario e inusual. Hay recuerdos de otras nevadas durante algún año anterior, pero la que más registros tiene fue la que se produjo en aquel invierno. Las instantáneas se vieron en prensa y en fotografías de particulares, familias, visitantes. Personas que salieron con sus cámaras fotográficas a capturar un recuerdo visual eterno de algo que no sabían, pero quizá imaginaban, iba a ser irrepetible.
La fotógrafa Paula Elena Ramos y la comisaria Teresa Juan llevan años realizando un acercamiento a los archivos fotográficos espontáneos que se dan en rastros, anticuarios o álbumes familiares para conseguir agrupar fotografías de aquella nevada. Ahora, se encuentran sumergidas en un objetivo: recopilar el primer archivo fotográfico de El año que nevó en València. Para ello, realizan llamamientos y piden colaboración de particulares que en sus casas tengan fotografías de aquellos días blancos en la ciudad. De este modo, se establece una correspondencia entre las memorias familiares ajenas y las suyas propias.
El título es un homenaje al libro de Rafael Chirbes con el mismo nombre.
The year it snowed in Valencia

València was covered with snow in the winter of 1956. This image of the city under a white blanket was and still is something extraordinary and unusual. There are memories of other snowfalls during a previous year, but the one with the most records was the one that occurred that winter. The snapshots were seen in the press and in photographs of individuals, families, visitors. People who went out with their cameras to capture an eternal visual memory of something they did not know, but perhaps imagined, would be unrepeatable.
The photographer Paula Elena Ramos and the curator Teresa Juan have been working for years on an approach to the spontaneous photographic archives found in flea markets, antique shops or family albums in order to gather photographs of that snowfall. Now, they are immersed in a goal: to compile the first photographic archive of El año que nevó en València (The year it snowed in Valencia). To do this, they are calling for collaboration from individuals who have photographs of those white days in the city in their homes. In this way, a correspondence is established between the family memories of others and their own.
The title is a tribute to the book of the same name by Rafael Chirbes.
